| I Was A Sucker for Golf Training Aids |
I was the golf gimmick hucksters' dream. In my 25-year desperate search to break 90, I've spent over $10,000 on golf clubs, balls, swing trainers, swing jackets, collapsible clubs, molded grips, etc. I've spent over $5,000 on personal lessons, private clinics, videos, DVD's and books. I only got worse!
| I Wasted Thousands of Dollars on Golf Training |
A 27 handicap, $15,000 in the hole and an angry wife.. I did’t know what the deal was. I stopped impulsively buying and TRIED to do research. Unfortunately, 90% of the web sites I found were selling something and reeked of bias.
My Journey, Discovery & Solution
I decided to use my rudimentary web design skills to use and create a simple golf training aid review blog that shared what I learned in my journey of discovery. |
| My Search Helped Me Break 90. At 58, I Now Shoot in the Low 80's |
Here's a quick review of what I learned and my short list of the golf swing trainer aids that work. (I won't go into detail on the hundreds of gimmicks that don't work because I want to stay positive here).
Click on the links above to learn more about each of these superb golf training/ swing trainer aids.
Thanks for visiting Golf Swing Trainer.org. I hope you find the content as useful as I have.
Good Luck!

#1 SyberVision Muscle Memory Programming System
|
Of
all of the golf training aids designed to significantly lower
your golf scores. SyberVision's Muscle Memory Programming
Training System ranks number one. In fact it was recently
voted the all-time best instructional video by Golf Magazine's
Top 100 Teachers. Many high handicap
players who use SyberVision report an immediate drop of
10 to 15 strokes. Low handicap players enjoy on the average
a 5% decrease in strokes. Why is it so effective?
Developed by SyberVision at the Stanford
University Neuropsychology Research Laboratory. The amazing
eye-to-brain technology allows to see thousands of perfect swing
images, capture the vision of the perfect swing in your mind
and then call up the image to guide your body through the perfect,
tempo, timing and rhythm rich centrifugal swing. Also, as you
watch the swing over and over again, your nervous system to
experience the equivalent of 10 hours of perfect practice in
60-minutes of viewing. Each incoming image of the perfect swing
reinforces a blueprint of a similar perfect swing you have stored
in your muscle memory.

Thanks Grant.. You've really cut through all of the golf training clutter. I spent over $1,000 on new drivers the past 3 years. They didn't help. It was my swing that needed fixing. What I found most helpful was the SyberVision program. Simply by watching I was able to discern the dynamics of a correct swing and immediately apply. It's an amazing learning process. I went from shooting in the mid 90's to consistently hitting in the low 80's. Seems to be a common story.
Mike says:
It's hard to sift through all of the golf training clutter out there. Thanks for your work and thoughts. I remember seeing golfers like Dave Stockton, Hale Irwin, Patty Sheehan, Julie Inkster wearing the SyberVision hat and shirt in the 1980's and 1990's. SyberVision was really big then--on TV and in the airline magazines. What happened? It seemed to disappear.
Carlos says:
According to the SyberVision web site, the creator of the training technology, Steve DeVore, was ousted from SyberVision in 1990 in a hostile stock takeover. He took the company to $51 million a year in sales, was acquired by a New York stock exchange company, and then a corporate raider did a run on the stock and took over the company. Rather than work for the raider, DeVore resigned and had to honor a multi-year non-compete. SyberVision then went through three iterations of ownership and was reacquired by DeVore in 2003. He has digitized the the "classic" library and is now working with Bobby Clampett and CBS Sports "SwingVision" high speed camera technology to develop a new generation of SyberVision DVD-based muscle memory programming systems.
Tony says:
I'm intrigued by the possibility of a new Sybervision golf program. I did a Google search and came up with this information from this site:

Marbas to provide wardrobe for SyberVision
SyberVision, one of the most successful golf training DVD's of all time, was first developed by Steve DeVore in the 1980s with swings and drills featuring Al “Mr. 59″ Geiberger - pro emeritus at Stone Eagle, another Golf Cognoscente partner.
Its success and popularity, coupled with new developments in both neuroscience and camera technology, made now the right time to release a new version.
“With over 1 million copies sold of the original SyberVision, Marbas is sure to see widespread value and recognition. This is not your average training DVD and Marbas is not your average apparel company.”
SyberVision will be filmed March 8-9 at the beautiful Quail Lodge golf course in Monterey, Calif. The DVD will be released later in 2009.
I ordered the SyberVision/Sheehan DVD. I didn't pay $150 but found it on the web for $89. It shipped fast, I received it in two days via USPS Priority (free shipping). I don't know if this was a limited sale or not. But I would shop around. Even if I had to pay $150, it would have been a good deal. After watching it only a few times, it dramatically improved my game. It's a wonderful program.
I first learned of SyberVision when I was in Japan in 1989. There were SyberVision indoor driving ranges, billboards in subway stations and on taxicabs, even a SyberVision comic book in which a blond girl, taking golf lessons from her non-SyberVision instructor, discovered SyberVision, made a dramatic improvement. Angered, her instructor put her into bondage and tortured her. She was rescued by a SyberVision trained instructor. SyberVision was huge in Japan for many years. Does anyone know what happened? It kind of disappeared.
That's about the time DeVore left the company. He was the only one who had the muscle memory editing formula that made the video simulate perfect physical practice. After he left, I heard no one knew how to create new courseware that worked. Now that he's back, I hope he comes out with new programs. In the meantime, the Geiberger DVD is still the best.
I watched the SyberVision DVD and it didn't do anything for me. I called their customer service and asked for a refund. I asked them how many people return the DVD's. They said about 1 in 1,000 customers. Well, they immediately gave me a refund and told me not to send it back but to give it to another golfer as a gift. I gave it to my club pro. He's now using it in his teaching and has ordered over 100 DVD's over the past year for his students. I guess I'm not a visual learner.
I'm really happy I came across this site! I would have never known about SyberVision. I didn't order the DVD but did a search on Amazon for used programs. I purchased the original VHS with audio cassettes and study guide for $18! There's a lot of other used SyberVision programs (audio and video cassettes) on Amazon for a fraction of the price you would pay for CDs. I still have the old VHS and cassette tape players, so what the heck. Did the golf program work for me? Yes. Ever since I picked up golf in my 30's (I'm now 67) I averaged about 92 on 19 holes. My best score ever was 82. A week after going through the training I shot an even par for the first time in my life. I'm not shooting consistently in the low to mid 80s --every so often creeping down to the high to mid seventies. For me, incredible results.
I learned from the SyberVision site that the golf program was so popular in Japan that the presidents of Toyota, Nissan Electric, Nippon TV, and Japan's prime minister formed the SyberVision club at their elite country club.
I checked this out on a Google search and came up with the most incredible article about this. It had to do with the first president George Bush and Mr. Toyota. Apparently SyberVision had a $20 million sale for its tapes from Toyota. The head of SyberVision (the guy who took it from DeVore) wanted to speed up the deal so he sent Mr. Toyota a pair of Bush's inaugural cuff links with the presidential emblem. This guys wife and Barbara Bush were close friends.
According to the article, written by Washington Post investigative reporter Jack Anderson, Mr. Toyota was so proud of the cufflinks that at one of the SyberVision club dinners, he passed them around the table for all to see. To his embarrassment, one of his powerful friends rubbed the presidential emblem and it was a decal that came off in his hand. Mr. Toyota was embarrassed and lost face. He quietly cancelled the order.
Click here to read this incredible article. Scroll down about 1/2 of the page to find the article.
As a note, the article was apparently posted by the brother-in-law of the guy who stole SyberVision (his wife was Barbara Bush's best friend. The brother-in-law claims this whole event was part of an international conspiracy. He says that after this happened, the secret service visited his sister on the day the article was published and as a result of the article and her humiliation by being used by her husband, she divorced her husband. Crazy stuff. Must read. But, all in all, SyberVision is some heady stuff.
I searched Amazon for SyberVision and found other SyberVision golf programs featuring Dave Stockton (Putting) and Hale Erwin (Difficult Shots), Mike Dunaway (Power Driving), Jean Claude Killy (Downhill Skiing) Stan Smith (Tennis), Marshall Holman & Johnny Petraglia (Bowling) Dave Peck (Racquetball, Rod Carew (Baseball)) and a host of other used SyberVision programs at reduced prices.
It really revolutionized my game. Well worth the investment. I prefer the DVD because I can get instant access to any part of the program without having to fast forward or rewind a video tape. I also learned from the SyberVision order taker that SyberVision is about to launch an all new golf program Summer of 2009. High-definition, big screen, apparently includes SwingVision super slo motion shots from CBS Sports.
I read the posts and ordered the DVD from SyberVision. At first I was a little disappointed because the golfer was Al Geiberger. Geiberger has a great swing but the film was definitely made in the 1980's. Spandex pants, funny looking golf shoes, persimmon driver. Somewhat old-fashioned. I got over that in only a few minutes. As I watched, it seemed like there was a little man inside my body performing perfect swings. It was an weird but incredible feeling. I instantly caught on and for the first time was able to understand what the perfect swing looked and felt like. My game improved immediately. It was the best golf money I have ever spent. I'm even looking to buy a used set of persimmon clubs.
I just ordered the DVD … thanks! I hope it works.
I checked out SyberVision on the web and came across this site in which this guy does a thorough review of the concept, the company, and its products. After reading about his experiences, I immediately ordered the golf DVD. It's as amazing as everyone says. Not at first, but after about two weeks of watching and then visualizing the prefect swing, my entire game (driving, fairway, around the greens, putting) all came together for the first time ever. Here's a link to the articles: Optimum Performance Technologies Reviews. Pretty impressive stuff.
I'm a professional golfer. A few weeks ago I watched the SyberVision DVD while on vacation in Carmel. CA. I grew up there and played on my home course. I've played there hundreds of times as a kid and as an adult. After watching, I went out to play the back nine. I shot an incredible 29!! My best score ever. I'm telling every one about this. It really works.
Like you, I've spent thousands on golf clubs and training. I've tried every new driver from the Big Bertha to TaylorMade's R9--and everything in between. I finally realized it wasn't the lack of good clubs but the lack of a good, repeating swing. And, like you, I tried the SyberVision system and it did everything for me that every one is talking about. The price is stiff at $150--but heck, it's done more for me than the $400 drivers --so it was worth it to me.
Well presented Grant. I`m going to get started now. I'll report back.
I was watching the Golf Channel the other day and a commentator said "so and so had a SyberVision-type swing. I didn't know what he was talking about so I did a Google search for "CyberVision." Wrong spelling but I was eventually led to the SyberVision site. I ordered and I was disappointed in the slow delivery time. It took over 10 days to get to me. They did email me to say it would be late because they had sold out of the program and was awaiting a new shipment from the replicator. They said since they came out with the DVD it was hard to keep them in stock. Well, it was worth the wait. Even though it's somewhat dated, I love it and would highly recommend it. I'm excited about the new Sybervision program. I'm sure with the new digital film and sound technologies, it will look great. I just don't know how much more effective it can get--at least for me. Does anyone know who the new SyberVision golfer will be?
Reply: The post above says the new cyber man is Bobby Clampett. Apparently it's going to be a marriage between Clampett's new, which I recommend her, "The Impact Zone" and SsyberV's muscle memory film technology. I called SV and they confirmed a new program is in development (duh, I already knew that) and said they would provide more info 30 days before it's released. Grant.
A bad golf swing and high scores is a real confidence killer --not just in golf but in life in general. Golf is a game of self-control and personal mastery. I've always struggled with an inconsistent swing. Whenever I stood over the ball, negative images of past golf failure would always come into my mind. I'd tighten up and then wonder what golfer would show up --the guy who every so often would hit it sweet and pure or the crazy man who would shank, whiff, or whatever. That uncertainty killed my game and has frustrated me for a few dozen years. I'm going to order the Sybervision DVD. I sure hope it helps. I'll let you know.
I live in London. My golf pro told me about Sybervision and how it improved his game over 20 years ago. I did a search on the internet and came across your site and review. I ordered the DVD and when I got it I was pleased to learn that it played on my English DVD player. Very impressive. Quite unique and a pleasurable learning experience.
I just ordered the Syber DVD. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I struggle with my game too. I recently bought the new Taylor Made R9 hoping the adjustable face will improve my game but have had difficulty getting the results.
I ordered the Geiberger DVD for myself and the Sheehan DVD for my wife. I will keep you posted if it works...
I'd never pay $150 for a golf instruction DVD. You people are all fools!!
Reply: Have you ever paid $400 for a driver or almost $1,000 for the latest golf club gimmicks. Or, have you ever paid a few hundred dollars for software burned onto a CD? You're not paying for the DVD but the technology embedded on the DVD that makes the training work. Some people just get the concept of money and value. Go to the SyberVision site and check out the impressive testimonials there. Many famous people and golfers. . Ask around and find out how many of your friends know about it or have heard about it. You'll be surprised. They sold over 1 million copies -- so there's a lot of people out there who know bout it and praise it. Grant
